The way I teach
I draw on two complementary movement methods in my sessions: Pilates and Moving Fascia. While each has its own unique focus, both share the same aim—to help you move with greater ease, build confidence in your body, and develop a deeper understanding of how you move.
Rather than following a one-size-fits-all approach, every session is tailored to your individual needs. Depending on your goals, we may focus on Pilates, Moving Fascia, or combine elements of both to create a movement experience that best supports you
Pilates
Pilates is a method developed by Joseph Pilates. It is a complete system of movements that can help improve mobility, flexibility, strength, body awareness, breath and coordination.
I work with both Pilates equipment and matwork. The equipment — reformer, trapeze table and chair — uses resistance springs to give your body a load to meet, helping to build strength and body awareness. The support and feedback from the equipment enables your body to learn and can support improvements in posture and other movement activities.
There are so many ways to approach different movements that Pilates is truly a style of movement that is accessible to all. Movements can be small and focused on the movement of one joint to support stability, and they can progress to larger, full-body movements that require complete coordination of the whole body, making them challenging for more experienced movers, dancers and athletes.
The overall outcome is that movement in everyday life can become more easeful. As Joseph Pilates said, “As much as necessary, as little as possible.”
Moving Fascia
Moving Fascia is a method developed by Ana Barretxeguren. Through exploring developmental movement — yield, push, reach, pull and roll — you are invited to explore your own movement patterns with the support of Moving Fascia soft balls.
Not to be underestimated, this small tool can be a powerful contributor in enabling you to truly experience and enquire into where movement comes from. Exploring connections within the body, and how different parts relate to one another, can support you in finding more integrated movement.
Moving Fascia considers the role of the nervous system, previous life experiences and trauma, and how these may be carried with us in our tissues, creating protective patterns and spirals within the body.
The practice gives space to lean into these patterns and allows them to unravel without forcing correction or striving for perfect alignment. Through invitational movement, following the developmental steps allows the body to explore and relearn how to move with more ease and less tension — enabling us not just to function, but to flourish.
I strive to ensure that every client enjoys a positive movement experience, regardless of their previous experience. Understanding that movement can be daunting for many, I endeavour to provide a safe and supportive environment where you can build confidence in your abilities.
